Media: Computer Weekly reports on Privacy and its Consequences

The report on Computer Weekly's website, "Privacy: What does it mean?", prepared by Graham Titterington in association with consultancy Ovum, looks at privacy and its relation to security and digital rights management. Aimed at the computer industry at large, it deals with the wide picture, but it's simple and to the point.

'Privacy is complementary to, but different from, security. The two words are often linked together with no substance to their relationship. Privacy is proactive, and security is largely reactive. Privacy is about business practices, whereas security is an enabling technology. True, privacy cannot be delivered without security to protect the private information, but that is as far as the relationship goes.'
