Submitted by Ann Light

Royal National Institute of the Blind's (RNIB) annual "Simply the Best" Awards 2004 nomination period opens today. Nominations can be made by the general public but also by companies and organisations themselves.

The RNIB "Simply the Best" Award Categories for 2004 include:
* Accessible TV, Film, Books, Leisure Award
* Product Development Award
* Accessible Information Award (includes websites)
* Customer Service Award

Sue Townsend, best-selling author, comments 'I think the RNIB "Simply the Best" Awards are a great way of not only celebrating the achievements and progress being made towards opening up every aspect of our society to blind and partially sighted people but also an excellent way of encouraging others and showing how it should be done.' Sue Townsend, who is registered blind having lost her sight about two years ago, is one of the judges for the RNIB Simply the Best Awards 2004.

The nomination period runs from 27 January until 31 March. Judging will take place in April and the Awards presented at a ceremony in Central London in May. For a nomination pack please ring the RNIB Simply the Best Nomination Hotline on: 020 7391 2279 or email corporatepartnerships@rnib.org.uk

The scheme has been sponsored by Thames Water for the last six years. This year, NPower join them as joint sponsors.
