Media: CW asks about User Motivation to Submit to e-Government Sites

Source: Computer Weekly, 3 March 2004
Submitted by Ann Light

"Online, but out of touch" looks at what can be learnt from the Criminal Records Bureau debacle: give the public what they want or they will switch off, says Colin Beveridge.

Processing delays in checking people's records are now being blamed on the relatively few applications submitted online.

'Not fair, is it? All that time and money spent building a web infrastructure and nobody wants to use it. But the CRB website is only the tip of the iceberg.'

He goes on: 'We need to work out what will really motivate people towards electronic delivery of services, rather than steadfastly persisting with the blind faith policy of "build it and they will come".'
