New Interaction Design Group meets in London

Source: UN, 24 March 2004
Submitted by Ann Light

The first meeting of Interaction Designers (as defined by interactiondesigners.com) took place this week.

The meeting heard Marc Rettig, principal of Marc Rettig Interaction, on the subject of "Interaction Design is Language Design": 'I recently gave this talk at Interaction Design Institute Ivrea. It argues that when we do interaction design, we are creating the language which people will need to use if they want to converse with a product. This isn't a metaphor, it's really what's going on. Building on this linguistic point of view, I suggest how this might affect our process and tools.'

This was followed by a discussion of the recent language-oriented topics featuring on the ID list.
