UsabilityNews goes RSS and PDA friendly

Source: UN, 6 July 2004
Submitted by Dave Clarke

With RSS (Rich Site Summary/Really Simple Syndication) becoming more and more popular, it only seemed natural to offer this content syndication functionality on the UN site. This is now live - see RSS newsfeeds for a list of channels to subscribe to.

RSS enables websites and applications to share content across the Internet in a standard and presentation independent way. One of its most popular uses is News Aggregation, where news can be gathered together in a single place for categorisation via the many news readers/aggregators available. These readers can be web or application based systems - some popular examples include:

Simply subscribe to a news channel on our site, and news will be delivered automatically to your chosen device. We prefer the full article versions thus supporting off-line reading.

Pocket UN - now small screen too

A cut down, mainly text-only, version of UN is now also available at: http://www.usabilitynews.com/pdahome.asp. We have only done limited testing of this (originally rapidly developed for accessing UN at the HCI 2003 conference on the Pocket PC), however we have found it to work on a number of devices (including the Blazer browser on PalmOS) and have therefore made it publicly available.

Note that Pocket UN is for online browsing only - for offline reading we recommend you use the RSS feeds mentioned above with an appropriate news reader/aggregator.
