The newly formed Interaction Design Group (IxDG) has launched a website to serve the needs of the international community of practitioners, teachers, and students of interaction design.
The Interaction Design Group site is intended to provide resources for both people and organisations who want to learn more about and advance the practice of interaction design.
The site currently provides news and other information about the Interaction Design Group, as well as information about IxD Discussion, the mailing list that IxDG hosts. 'This is just the beginning. It will be great to create a watering hole for the interaction design community,' said steering committee member David Heller.
In the future, the site will serve the needs of interaction designers by * providing tools and a resource library * disseminating information about interaction design standards, guidelines, patterns, and best practices * assisting interaction designers in obtaining employment through a Jobs Board and Consultants Directory * providing a forum for the discussion of interaction design.
The Interaction Design Group is a new association that serves the needs of the international community of practitioners, teachers, and students of interaction design. Its mission includes * evangelism - promoting awareness of the discipline, craft, and value of interaction design among businesses, academia, consumers, and colleagues * innovation - advancing the discipline of interaction design * professionalism - encouraging high standards of practice among interaction designers * education - establishing standards for academic programs in interaction design * community building - developing a close-knit community of interaction design professionals.
In August 2003, Rick Cecil, David Heller, Challis Hodge, and Jim Jarrett founded the Interaction Design Group in response to calls by Bruce "Tog" Tognazzini and Challis Hodge for the interaction design community to create a professional association to address the challenges that interaction designers face in their professional lives. The IxDG Advisory Board currently includes the following people from both the interaction design community and the broader user experience design community: Alan Cooper, Kim Goodwin, Challis Hodge, Henrik Olsen, Robert Reimann, Louis Rosenfeld, and Nathan Shedroff.
IxDG hosts IxD Discussion, a mailing list that provides an international forum for the discussion of interaction design and currently has about 900 subscribers worldwide. Its subscribers include practitioners, educators, and authors in the field of interaction design, as well as students and others who are interested in the discipline of interaction design.
