Media: Illawarra Mercury on the Door that knows when to Resist

Source: Illawarra Mercury, 22 December 2004
Submitted by Ann Light

"Robbers foiled by sliding door" by Laurel-Lee Roderick of the Illawarra Mercury in Australia tells the story of

Would-be bandits tried to make their entry into a local restaurant in the town of Illawarra through a sliding glass door - by pushing it. The newspaper reports that the portal wouldn't budge so they left.

Owner Greg Moore is reported as thankful the bandits, one of whom was carrying a knife, did not gain entry to the restaurant. Apart from scuff marks on the glass door, there was no damage.

'Police are treating the attempted hold-up seriously, in case the robbers find another restaurant with forward-opening doors. "They're probably more dangerous because they're dumb," police investigations manager Jamie Williams said.'

(with thanks to Carl Myhill...)
