Media: The Register reviews Progress on the American anti-Terrorist Software

Source: The Register, 31 March 2005
Submitted by Ann Light

"Passenger screening gimmick stuck at the gate" ends with the lines: 'it comes as no surprise that TSA should have fallen behind in developing a system intended to do the impossible. The only odd thing here is the fact that the law enforcement establishment, the public, and Congress foolishly persist in believing that "information technology" is the answer to real-world security problems.'

Read this depressing account of the progress of the American anti-terrorist computer system and weep. Although usability doesn't formally get much of a look in, this is a story about one of the least user-centric of design projects, in that it's a people management system that takes no account of people.
