Media: CHI 2005: OK/Cancel tackles giving Conference Papers

The ever-splendid OK/Cancel has captured something of the spirit of CHI 2005 in Kevin Cheng's critique of conference presentations: "So You’ve Published. Now Can You Present?".

Cheng presented a short paper at CHI this year and left with a process-focused take home message which he has shared in a most constructive way. Instead of merely highlighting the problems with much academic presentation, he gives guidance about how to overcome such matters as knowing your paper is on the CD that no one has read but still might. And he aims his thinking at both conference presenter, and conference organiser...

The 11 comments his thought piece has stimulated (to the time of writing) are all approving and give further resources for getting out of the bullet point, powerpoint rut. And one raises the question of what should happen when the presentation slides form the only record of the talk. Plenty here to think about.
