The future for usability - London

Date: 20 March 2002
Source: UN, 22 February 2002
Submitted by Nico Macdonald

The veteran British Interactive Media Association (BIMA) has finally discovered usability. BIMA is bringing together an interesting industry panel to debate the future of usability on 20th March 2002 at the Design Council in London.

This event will look at the future of usability and specifically "how usability testing has evolved, how it has affected our understanding of digital design, how usability can make online advertising more effective, how making your site accessible to the disabled can teach valuable design lessons".

The evening will consist of a series of seminars with presenters Phil Barrett, a director of Flow Interactive, Martyn Perks, design director of spiked-online.com, and Julie Howell of the RNIB. It will be introduced by Andrew Summers, Chief Executive of the Design Council, and chaired by ex-New Media Creative editor Alex Tanner. The seminars will be followed by questions from the floor and refreshments.

Tickets cost £15 plus VAT for BIMA members, and £25 plus VAT for non-members.

The BIMA information and registration pages are some of the least pleasant and least usable I have seen on the Web, but do offer PayPal as a payment option. I look forward to usability becoming a prominent criterion in its annual 'BIMAs' awards.
