CfP: Now Let's do it in Practise: User Experience Evaluation Methods in Product Development

This is a one-day workshop in CHI 2008 to be held on Sunday, April 6th, 2008 in Florence, Italy.

As particular industry sectors mature, usability and technical reliability of products is taken for granted and users start to look for products that provide engaging user experience (UX). Although the term UX is widely used, the tools for managing UX in product development are still inadequate. In specific, there is lack of practical methods for lightweight, iterative UX evaluation.

In the workshop we will investigate UX evaluation methods that help product developers to improve both pragmatic and hedonistic UX with various kinds of products, applications and services. The outcome of the workshop will be a model of methods for UX evaluation during the product development phases.

The questions explored in the workshop include:
* What are the requirements to UX evaluation methods in product development?
* How do the UX models and methods developed in the academic community support the practical evaluation of UX?
* What is the applicability of different evaluation methods in different product development phases and product readiness stages?
* How does UX evaluation differ in different application fields, such as mobile consumer services or devices, games, or harvester machines?

The workshop is targeted at practitioners and researchers addressing the challenges of user experience evaluation in their work. We especially encourage industrial participants to submit their positions. The participants will be selected based on their contributions to user experience evaluation and the overall quality of the position paper.

The position papers of maximum 5 pages in the CHI extended abstracts format should be sent by October 31st to
Kaisa Väänänen-Vainio-Mattila (email: kaisa.vaananen-vainio-mattila@tut.fi); and
Virpi Roto (email: virpi.roto@nokia.com).

At least one author is required to register to the workshop and one day of CHI 2008 (http://www.chi2008.org/index.html).
