HCI Specialist / Interaction Engineer – Consumer Experience - Dublin, Ireland

The HCI Specialist /Interaction Engineer will be based in Dublin, but be part of a globally distributed Consumer Experience (Cx) team to define; prototype; working with designers to refine and then test and validate industry leading interaction solutions, following a User Centred Design (UCD) process.

Particular focus will be in the areas of walk-up and use self-service terminals (e.g. self-checkout, ATMs, airline check-in) from a user interaction, cognitive and biomechanical perspective and also self-service applications through mobile and internet channels.

Required by the post is an understanding of the design and usability challenges of complex technologies in the public domain for both able-bodied and disabled user groups across international populations. The position will involve close team working with others including graphic designers, industrial designers, product managers, sales personnel and both hardware and software engineers. The successful applicant will also be expected to be an active participant in a Community of Interest with other CX professionals internationally and contribute to projects in multiple industries. An interest in applications for new and emerging technology is important.

Applicants should be able to work independently to tight deadlines, and be able to effectively communicate their work to others (written reports, mock-ups, prototypes and verbal presentations). Initiative and a pragmatic approach to the work are considered essential, as is an ability to quickly understand the technologies and organisational demands associated with the work. Previous experience is similar fields is of obvious advantage as is relevant experience in internet or mobile telecommunications industries. Position will involve occasional UK and international travel.

• Team working

The ideal candidate should be qualified to at least degree level in a relevant discipline (eg Computer Science, Information Architecture, Applied Psychology etc) and with a minimum of 2 years relevant industry experience. Consideration may be given to exceptional candidates with less experience. Emphasis is on new innovative thinking in this area rather than extensive years of experience.
