Brief: Egg manages Account Aggregation through Sleight of Hand

Account aggregation - the provision of one front end for multiple financial institutions - was big news at the end of last year but it's taken till now and a by-pass of the regulations for its launch in the UK.

Best practice recommendations from APACS (the Association for Payment Clearing Services) involve collecting mutual consent for aggregating services from third-parties, but Egg has now found a way of launching its Money Manager service, which provides customers with one view of all their bank accounts, without requiring explicit permission from rival banks to access the customer bank account information they hold.

It comes with a fraud guarantee and stores a customer's personal security details encrypted on their own PC. They do not disclose these details to Egg or any other party, giving a greater measure of control and security, says the company.
