Public Sector Usability training - London

Date: 27 November 2008
Source: User Vision, 7 November 2008
Submitted by Laura Fealy

In the light of the Audit Commission’s 2008 verdict that – “The quality of government websites has improved only slightly since 2002” – usability is going to receive substantial attention from Central Government, as it attempts to remove usability barriers to its Transformational Government programme. As such User Vision, the user experience specialists have designed a course specific to the Public Sector to aid them in improving their online offering.

WHO IS IT FOR?
This course is for anyone involved in a public service website, from content editors to designers, this course will give you a solid understanding in usability and user experience.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?
This course focuses first on understanding
- what is usability
- role and benefits of usability
- how usability is assessed and how to arrange usability testing
- how to develop websites and applications from a user centred perspective
- the link between the user experience and customer service
- impact of user generated content

The aim is to equip you with the usability skills necessary to address problems around:
- Inclusiveness and getting to hard-to-reach audiences
- Applying usability to harmonising the web channel with offline channels
- Understanding how usability can help with “No Wrong Door” and “Avoidable Contacts” problems
- How usability can promote community engagement
- How usability can increase the take-up of Web Self Service

You will also be able to rate yourself on a Usability Maturity Model, so that you can judge how far along your organisation is in bringing your users into the heart of the design of your website and its applications.

ABOUT THE TRAINERS
The course is provided by two experienced usability consultants. Chris Rourke, founder and Managing Director of User Vision has over 14 years experience in the field of usability. We are also offering an early bird rate of £325 + VAT (£381.86 inc VAT)for bookings before the 17th of November.
