New technology showcased at World Usability Day

Source: User Vision, 13 November 2008
Submitted by Chris Welton

On 13 November 2008, towns and cities around the world will focus on a common global concern – transport usability and its impact on our environment.

For the fourth year User Vision is taking part in World Usability Day with “A trip through the user experience”. In User Vision’s Edinburgh head office, companies from all over the UK will experience a series of interactive demonstrations, live usability and accessibility tests and workshops, highlighting key user experience issues many of us face on a day to day basis. User Vision has designed this year’s event to highlight usability and accessibility across a variety of platforms. Demonstrations and workshops will cover web, mobile, interactive TV, software and product usability.

Activities include:
· The driving test challenge
Try your hand at the latest iTV software that allows you to practice for the hazard perception portion of your Driving theory test, will it help you pass?
· Mobile mapping for the Blind
Watch this remarkable new technology where blind users use audible SatNav through their mobile phones to find their way.
· Child car seats: Is your baby safe?
Take part in live product usability testing and find out the challenges faced by parents today.
· How do adverts make you feel?
See our new iMotions technology in action and find out what emotional impact adverts have on users.
· I’ve lost my bag!
Find out how easy (or difficult!) it is to reclaim your lost baggage using baggage reclaim forms.
· Do you know your Canaries from your Balearics?
Using the latest online card sorting technology find out the importance of an effective Information Architecture.

Chris Rourke, User Vision’s CEO explains: “World Usability Day is a great opportunity to shine a light on usability and accessibility. This year has seen us introduce some very exciting new technologies in eye tracking and interactive TV and we are looking forward to showcasing them on the day.”

The open day runs from 2-6pm and people are welcome to drop in during the afternoon when light refreshments will be served.
