People-centred in more ways than One

Source: System Concepts, 19 December 2008
Submitted by Tom Stewart

System Concepts, a London based usability, ergonomics, health and safety consultancy, has just received a glowing report from its latest Investors in People (IIP) assessment. The company was awarded the IIP National Standard for excellence in business development through people in 1999 and has maintained its high standards as the company has grown to the 30 consultants it employs today.

The latest assessor reported: "This review was a genuine pleasure to undertake, due to the very high levels of commitment to people development at every level within the business. Everyone had nothing but praise for the learning and development opportunities afforded to them and for the positive leadership that makes it all possible."

The report highlighted some particular strengths including:
• A wide range of learning and development opportunities are available.
• Talent is grown, giving all staff the opportunity to develop their potential.
• There is an inclusive approach to management and there are plenty of opportunities for staff to put forward their own ideas.
• Individual contribution is recognised and valued.
• System Concepts is always looking for ways to improve the way it interacts with its people.

As a result of all this good practice people spoke of how much they enjoyed working for System Concepts. Tom Stewart and Tanya Heasman, joint managing directors, were delighted with the report, commenting: “We believe that putting people first is good for business, whether you are designing websites, software or products, or looking after the health and safety of your employees. Our consultancy and training services offer other organisations the chance to benefit from the practical, people-centred approach we have demonstrated in our own organisation”.
