System Concepts Celebrates World Usability Day 2009

Source: System Concepts Ltd, 13 November 2009

System Concepts

Sustainability is already a mainstream concern for many businesses, and we believe it will become more important over the next few years, driven by both consumers and legislatation. To celebrate World Usability Day 2009, with its theme of Designing for a Sustainable World, we asked some key people for their views, and put them together in a podcast, which is now showing on the System Concepts website.

Our contributors include:
- Professor Ben Shneiderman - User Interface guru from the University of Maryland
- John Thackara - Director, Doors of Perception and currently senior advisor on sustainability to the UK Design Council
- Liz Edwards, Home Editor of the UK Consumer’s Association
plus designers, materials specialists and System Concepts' Executive Chairman, Tom Stewart.

The podcast is split into five short chapters each with a different focus, so we hope there will be something relevant to everyone. As Tom explains: "World Usability Day reminds us that human-centred design provides a unique opportunity to change our approach to design and face up to our social, economic and environmental responsibilities. We'd be delighted if you would visit our website, watch the podcast and let us know your views - there is a survey at the end which we hope will produce some interesting answers."
