Brief: Idiocy of Visual Interface for Radios Decried

Chris Yapp of Hewlett Packard, speaking at a session of the Oxford Internet Institute's one-day conference on "Casting a Wider Net" used the occasion to express his dismay at the development of digital radios with a visual interface.

He pointed out that radio had been the 'perfect medium' for those with visual impairments, which was now being denied the very group that had benefited most because in this new form the interface relied on sight. He gave the example as just one of the exclusive practices that it would be important to guard against in making decisions about how technology might shape the future of society.
