Media: EuropeMedia reports on the SMS/iTV Interface

Source: EuropeMedia, 3 March 2003
Submitted by Ann Light

"Mobile industry looks to SMS/TV interactivity" is a report of a recent conference with commentary that convincingly airs some of the issues involved in developing interactivity between TV shows and mobile phones, using texting for yet another unexpected outcome...

Reviewing developments around the world - this type of interactivity is big in India, for instance - author Leigh Phillips writes: "Some of the new formats start to include not only text, but also pictures and sound. In the UK, the TXT Me channel, is built up around SMS interactivity, but also allows viewers to send in pictures and sounds – already serving the, as yet, small audience of MMS phone users. Moreover, dating services across the board are moving en masse to paid interactivitiy between members, with television as a platform for video and picture chat."
