Articles describing novel ideas and applications in all areas related to human factors and computational models in negotiation are of interest. We also invite submissions of statements of interests or position papers. A selection of accepted papers will be considered for publication in the Group Decision and Negotiation Journal.

AIMS AND SCOPE
==============
Negotiation is a complex and sometimes emotional decision-making process aiming to reach an agreement to exchange goods or services. Although a daily activity, extensive research has shown that few people are effective negotiators. Current state of the art negotiation support systems can help make a significant improvement in negotiation performance. In particular, when the negotiation space is well-understood such systems can make a difference, partly because machines can much better deal with the computational complexity involved. However, the negotiation space can only be properly developed if the human parties jointly explore their interests. The inherent semantic problem and the emotional issues involved make that negotiation cannot be handled by artificial intelligence alone, and a human-machine collaborative system is required. Such systems are not only to support humans in providing strategic advice but also in coping with emotions and moods in human-human interactions.

In order to develop human-machine collaborative negotiation support systems there is a need for the development of computational models, frameworks, and experimental, user-centred and ergonomic methods that enable the engineering of negotiation support systems. It is important for this purpose to study the role of human factors in negotiation as well as computational models to enable intelligent support for negotiation. To develop the next generation of negotiation support systems there are still many, diverse challenges: models of (qualitative, incomplete) preferences, preference change and strategies, preference elicitation, assessment methods for negotiation performance, learning and adaptativeness in negotiation, models of emotion and user awareness, the use and creation of domain knowledge, user interfaces for negotiation support, human-supported assessment of opponent, conflict handling styles, experimental methods.

Topics covered include but are not limited to:
•     Negotiation strategies (bidding, acceptance)
•     Argumentation for negotiation
•     Negotiation interaction
•     Learning in negotiation
•     Negotiation domain knowledge
•     Case studies
•     Preference elicitation
•     Qualitative preferences
•     Incomplete preferences
• Ontologies for negotiation (protocols, preferences, domain knowledge)
•     Negotiation Support Systems
• User interfaces for Negotiation Support Systems
•     Human-machine negotiation
• Negotiation, conflict handling, and experiments related to e.g. consensus building
• Personality in negotiation (e.g. Big Five)
•     Emotions in negotiation
•     Cultural factors in negotiation
•     Negotiation bidding advice
•     Negotiation conflict styles
• Trust in automatically generated negotiation advice
•     Negotiation applications
•     E-commerce
• Methods and tools for negotiation tasks
• Design and Evaluation of support systems
• Conflict handling styles and consensus building
• HCI aspects and human factors of negotiation

PAPER SUBMISSION
================
Original papers from the above-mentioned or other related areas will be considered. Nevertheless, current interfaces seldom reflect such cultural 'mental programs', as Hofstede has termed this effect. Thus, users are forced to adapt their way of interaction and interpretation to a given (most of the time western) perspective. Instead it would be much more reasonable to allow eg for culturally tailored presentation of information.

Although there is no principled approach yet to challenge the importance of cultural patterns in human-computer interaction, there is a number of promising results from a variety of research projects around the world that have started to integrate cultural aspects in the interaction. These range from artistic work over web design to CSCW support tools and training applications with conversational virtual characters. Bringing together the leading reseachers from these emerging research streams in this special issue will further discussion and contribute to establishing a new research area.

The special issue will be centered around three main research challenges:

1. Models and Theory: Cultural norms and values penetrate all our interactions by giving us heuristics how to behave and how to interpret verbal and nonverbal behaviors. To make such a notion like culture available for computation, we need theories of culture that precisely describe its effects on interaction allowing for building parametrized models.
2. Empirical data on cultural/cross-cultural interaction: To realize technical systems that take cultural influences on behavior and perception into account, precise data analysis on how this influence manifests itself is necessary. Because this information is often scattered throughout the literature, it is necessary to provide (meta-)analyses of specific behaviors. Additionally, there is a need for large databases of comparable multimodal corpora from different cultures to assess variations in a principled way. From a developers point of view, data on cultural differences in interacting with interfaces and devices is necessary.
3. Systems and Applications: Having identified cultural influences on verbal/nonverbal interaction behaviors, it remains to be shown how this can be applied to the development of human-computer interfaces, for instance in dynamically tailoring web designs to the user's cultural preferences for information presentation, or in ASR systems taking the user's culture-specific verbal behavior into account, or in virtual characters in games and training applications reflecting the users' culturally determined nonverbal behavior patterns. Moreover, the effect of systems taking cultural variables into account has to be evaluated to provide a sound empirical foundation for further developments.

Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Models and theories of enculturated interfaces
- Design guidelines for enculturated interfaces
- Field studies of intercultural interaction
- Standardization issues on resources and tools for enculturated HCI such as multilingual/multi-cultural comparative corpus, verbal/nonverbal behaviors annotation scheme
- Language processing for enculturated interfaces/multilingual NLP
- Multimodal processing for enculturated interfaces
- Culture adaptive interaction techniques focuing e.g. on conversational, mobile, pervasive, or web-based interactions
- Computer supported intercultural collaboration
- Web technologies for enculturated HCI
- Ambient technologies for enculturated HCI
- Prototypes of enculturated systems
- Evaluation case studies/Evaluation guidelines for enculturated systems

Guest Editors
Matthias Rehm, Elisabeth André, University of Augsburg
Yukiko Nakano, Seikei University, Tokyo
Toyoaki Nishida, Kyoto University

Contact:
Matthias Rehm, rehm AT informatik.uni-augsburg.de
Yukiko Nakano, y.nakano AT st.seikei.ac.jp
CfP: Collocated Social Practices Surrounding Photos - special issue of IJHCS

Deadine: 21 November 2008
Following the uptake of digital cameras there has been considerable interest from the HCI field in contemporary photographic practices. Recent studies on people’s interactions with printed and digital photos have drawn attention to the novel social practices that continue to emerge in light of technical advances. The ways in which people approach the capture, sharing, storing and display of photos are rapidly changing, and the scope of these changes, along with their social and cultural implications, raises interesting challenges and possibilities for the design of supportive technologies.

This special issue aims to build on what has become an established corpus of HCI studies on photography, reflecting past research and bringing together recent technical developments, empirical studies and thoughts on method and theory. The special issue will thus present a set of high quality original research that considers the collocated social practices that surround photos and how these might inform the design of new technologies.

RELEVANT TOPICS include, but are not limited to:
- Existing collocated practices surrounding photos and how these reflect and feed into social and cultural relationships, either in the home, workplace or wider community;
- Adoption of existing technologies into the sharing, display, or organisation of photos, and their effects on the social context of use;
- Development of new technologies and how these might support existing and future social practices surrounding photos;
- Exploration of concepts such as photowork and photo-talk, and how these might further inform technology innovation;
- Fundamental methods and principles of user research for studying photos within a social context, and the complexities associated with this.

Articles must be based on original research, although extended versions of conference papers may be acceptable if they contain at least 50% new material. It is expected that the special issue will include some articles extended from papers that were presented at the 2008 CHI workshop on Collocated Social Practices Surrounding Photos, but other original articles are also welcome.

SUMBISSIONS ENCOURAGED INCLUDE
- Theoretical papers dealing with descriptive or explanatory models of the social impact and use of digital photography;
- Methodological papers concentrating on how to analyse social practices associated with photos and photo-related technologies;
- Papers detailing the development of new technologies and how they might fit existing social practices or trigger new ones;
- Empirical papers grounded in either qualitative or quantitative approaches.

Complete articles should be submitted by the deadline of 21st November, 2008. Papers will be subject to the full IJHCS review process, with decisions expected by 27th February, 2009.

CO-EDITORS
Siân Lindley, Microsoft Research Cambridge, UK
email v-silind@microsoft.com
Abigail Durrant, Digital World Research Centre, University of Surrey, UK
email a.durrant@surrey.ac.uk
David Kirk, Microsoft Research Cambridge, UK
email dakirk@microsoft.com
Alex Taylor, Microsoft Research Cambridge, UK
email alex.taylor@microsoft.com

ICEIS 2009- 11th International Conference on Enterprise Information Systems - Milan, Italy

Deadine: 28 November 2008
SCOPE
The purpose of the 11th International Conference on Enterprise Information Systems (ICEIS) is to bring together researchers, engineers and practitioners interested in the advances and business applications of information systems. Pervasive healthcare seeks to respond to a variety of pressures on healthcare systems, including the increased incidence of life-style related and chronic diseases, emerging consumerism in healthcare, need for empowering patients and relatives for self-care and management of their health, and need to provide seamless access for health care services, independent of time and place.

Pervasive healthcare may be defined from two perspectives. First, it is the development and application of pervasive computing (or ubiquitous computing, ambient intelligence) technologies for healthcare, health and wellness management. Second, it seeks to make healthcare available to anyone, anytime, and anywhere by removing locational, time and other restraints while increasing both the coverage and quality of healthcare.

The Pervasive Healthcare conference aims to gather together technology experts, practitioners, industry and national authorities contributing towards the development and application of human-centered pervasive and ubiquitous computing technology for healthcare and wellness.

CONTRIBUTIONS
We seek novel, innovative, and exciting work in areas including but not limited to:

Technology
- Design and evaluation of patient and ambient-related sensors
- Wearable and implantable sensor integration
- Sensor networks for pervasive healthcare
- Data fusion in pervasive healthcare environments
- Physiological models for interpreting medical sensor data
- Decision support algorithms for sensor analysis

User Needs
- Usability and acceptability issues
- Social implications
- Coverage and delivery of pervasive healthcare services
- Diversity of patients and their specific requirements
- Telemedicine

Applications
- Clinical applications, validation and evaluation studies
- Pervasive healthcare applications for citizen for chronic disease management & health risk management
- Health promotion, and disease prevention
- Wearable, ambient and home based health and wellness measurement and monitoring technologies
- Continuous vs event-driven monitoring of patients in diverse environments
- Feedback

Management of Pervasive Healthcare
- Business cases and cost issues
- Electronic citizen-managed health records
- Security and privacy in pervasive healthcare
- Training of healthcare professional for pervasive healthcare
- Legal and regulatory issues in pervasive healthcare
- Insurance payments and cost aspects
- Standards and interoperability in pervasive healthcare
- Using mobile devices for healthcare information storage, update, and transmission

TYPE OF SUBMISSIONS
Pervasive Health will accept submissions in the following categories:

1 Full papers (6-8 pages submissions)
- Full papers are submissions describing results and original research work not submitted or published elsewhere in one of the four main categories listed below. Full papers should properly place the work within the field, cite related work, and clearly indicate the innovative aspects of the work and its contribution to the field.

2 Posters (3-4 pages submissions)
- Authors are invited to submit work in progress whose preliminary results are already interesting to Pervasive Health audience. The poster track will give Pervasive Health attendees a way to learn about ongoing research initiatives and will provide presenters with an excellent opportunity to receive invaluable direct feedback from experts.

3 Demos (2 pages submissions)
- For the first time, Pervasive Health Conference proposes a demo track that will showcase the latest developments and prototypes related to the topics of interest of the conference. The expected demo submissions should describe the demo from both, the technical side and its contribution to healthcare aspects.

4 Position Papers (2 pages submissions)
- Position papers are envisioned to provide insight into the lessons learnt from current (industrial, practitioners, government, etc.) pervasive healthcare practice. The position papers track is envisioned to provide the view of practitioners to the pervasive health community in order to have a more clear understanding about the real needs of healthcare operators and in this way shorten the gap between technologists and the every-day needs of practitioners.

5 Workshops (2 pages submissions)
- Several workshops will be run in conjunction with the conference. The purpose of these workshops is to discuss work in progress and explore opportunities for new research related to pervasive healthcare. Proposals for workshops should be submitted directly to the workshops co-chairs..

All accepted submissions will be published in IEEE Xplore Digital Library.

IMPORTANT DATES
Full papers, Posters, Demos & Position Papers due: December 5, 2008
Notification of Acceptance: February 8, 2009
Camera-ready Manuscripts due: February 27, 2009
Conference Dates: April 1 - 3, 2009

Margarita Anastassova
CREATE-NET Post-Doc Researcher
Via alla Cascata,
56 C Building D - 38100
Trento
Italy

e-mail: margarita.anastassova@create-net.org
Tel: (+39) 0461 314952
Fax: (+39) 0461 314972
